Tidebite Privacy Policy

Publisher: Cloudbit d.o.o., Zagreb, Croatia · Contact: Contact Us· Last updated: 23 October 2026

Tidebite predicts good fishing times from moon phases, solunar periods, tides and weather, and lets you keep a private log of your catches. The app is free to use. Some features (Fish ID and public spots) are part of the optional subscription Tidebite Pro.

This page informs you about how your information is collected, used and disclosed when you use the app. If you choose to use the app, you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. We do not sell your data, we show no ads, and there are no social features: your catches are never shared with other users.

Data we process

Your location

Precise or approximate location, as you allow in your phone settings. It is used to show the forecast for where you are and to record where a catch was made. Coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch weather and tide data, including historical data for catches you log for a past date. Catch locations are stored in your account. You can use the app without allowing location by searching for a place instead.

Places you search for

Search terms for places are sent to the Open-Meteo geocoding service to find a location by name.

Catches, spots and tackle

Species, time, place, size, notes, the conditions at the time of the catch, your saved spots and your tackle box are stored in your private account in Google Firebase (Firestore), in the EU (Frankfurt).

Photos

Catch photos are stored in Google Firebase Storage. When you add a photo, the app may read its date and GPS position on your device to offer to use them for the catch. This happens only on your device. Location data embedded in photos (EXIF) is removed on your device before the photo is saved or uploaded.

Fish ID

Only when you tap Identify: a downscaled copy of the photo (without location data) is sent through our server in the EU to Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini), together with your country and water type. Google may process it outside the EU under its data processing terms and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. It is not stored by us or used by Google to train models. We count how many identifications you make per day to apply the daily limit.

Account

An anonymous Firebase account is created automatically, so no name, email or password is required. If you sign in with Google or Apple, your email address (or Apple's private relay address) is kept by Google Firebase Authentication so you can sign in again on another phone.

Subscriptions

Tidebite Pro is managed by RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives your account identifier and App Store purchase records. Payments are handled by Apple; we never see your payment card details.

Settings and bite alerts

Units, chosen location, water type and bite alert choices are stored on your device. Bite alerts are worked out and scheduled on your device; a copy of your favourite spots' names and positions is kept on the device for that.

Analytics and crash reports

Usage analytics and crash reports are off unless you turn them on in Profile → Privacy. If enabled, we use Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to improve the app. You can turn them off again at any time.

Log Data and app integrity

When an error occurs, and you have allowed crash reports, we may collect information such as your device model, operating system version, app configuration and the time of use. This does not contain personally identifiable information. To protect our servers from misuse, the app uses Firebase App Check, which asks Apple (App Attest / DeviceCheck) to confirm that requests come from the genuine app on a real device.

Maps

The map is provided by Google Maps. When you view it, Google receives technical information such as your IP address and device details, as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Public fishing spots come from OpenStreetMap: our server requests areas of roughly 20 × 40 km, and your device and exact location are not sent.

Cookies

The app does not use cookies. Third-party libraries it uses may use similar technologies to provide their services.

Service Providers

We use third-party companies to provide the app on our behalf and to help us run it:

  • Google Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd.): authentication, database, file storage, remote configuration, app integrity and, only with your consent, analytics and crash reporting;
  • Google Cloud Vertex AI: species identification for photos you choose to identify;
  • RevenueCat, Inc. (USA): subscription management;
  • Open-Meteo (Switzerland): weather, marine and geocoding data;
  • OpenStreetMap contributors: public fishing spot data.

These third parties have access to the information they need to perform their tasks on our behalf. They are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Legal basis (GDPR)

Providing the features you use (forecast, catch log, subscription) is based on performance of a contract, Art. 6(1)(b). Analytics and crash reports are based on your consent, Art. 6(1)(a), which you can withdraw at any time in the app.

Retention

Your catches and photos are kept until you delete them or your account. If you use the app as a guest and then sign in to an existing account, the guest account and its copy of the data are deleted. Forecast data is cached on your device for up to 7 days.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export and delete your data in the app:

  • Export my data (Profile) gives you a ZIP file with your catches (CSV and JSON), photos, spots, tackle and settings;
  • Delete account (Profile) deletes your catches, photos, spots, tackle and account from our servers and from your phone straight away; a server-side clean-up removes anything left over. A Tidebite Pro subscription is not cancelled by this: cancel it in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions;
  • Deleting a catch removes it and its photos.

You can also contact us at the address above, and you can complain to your data protection authority.

Security

We value your trust in providing us your information, so we strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Links to Other Sites

The app may contain links to other sites, such as local fishing rules. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. These external sites are not operated by us, so we advise you to review their privacy policies. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Children’s Privacy

The app is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If you have reason to believe that a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the date above.

This policy is effective as of 2026-10-23
